** THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULLY BOOKED**
If you would like to be put ono the reserve list please contact Rosie Cannon (rosemary.cannon@kcl.ac.uk)Background/Introduction to Topic
There are a number of Government directives to involve service users and carers in all aspects of the design and delivery of the education and training of health professional students. Effective involvement means including service users and carers in all aspects of the educational process, from curriculum design, student recruitment and teaching through to assessment, evaluation and quality monitoring. Although there are guides to involving service users in education and training, there are no training packages tailored specifically for preparing educationalists to involve service users and carers in learning and teaching.
Activities included in workshop
Using participatory approaches, participants will plan how to prepare and support service user and carer involvement in learning and teaching. In small groups, participants will identify the steps and stages to meaningful involvement and the infrastructure that needs to be in place to support this. They will then identify the barriers to involvement and develop solutions to these.
Proposed outcomes of workshop
Participants will share their
concerns and difficulties, examples of good practice, obtain practical tips and
guidance from the experts, enabling them to take back practical advice and
protocols to improve service user and carer involvement in their own
organisation.
Participants will gain:
- Enhanced understanding of service user and carer involvement in learning and teaching;
- Increased understanding of the preparation and support necessary for service users and carers to be effectively involved in learning and teaching;
- Each participant will leave with a plan to recruit, prepare, support and overcome barriers to involving service users and carers in their own workplace.
