External Examiners

The Higher Education Academy has recognised a need for the enhancement of standards in the external examining system, to ensure a greater consistency from appointment, through induction and training, to the reporting by examiners.

External examining provides a systematic and collaborative way of ensuring that standards are equivalent and of high quality across UK HE and forms part of the UK Academic Infrastructure (AI).  The database of novice and experienced external examiners from the Health Sciences and Practice disciplines aims to broker engagement of seeking departments with potential examiners and thus also encourage new examiners. Issues in external examining in health professions are various: Fitness to Practice, grading in practice, Interprofessional assessment to name but a few.
