Problem Based Learning Special Interest Group
Welcome
The PBL SIG came into being in 1997, when a number of nurse lecturers met informally and found that they had had similar experiences when using PBL as a learning and teaching methodology. The group was initially based in the North-West of England and regular meetings were held around the region. A newsletter, edited by Moira McLoughlin at Salford University, appeared for a couple of years..
Following discussions with the HEA Health Science and Practice subject centre the group is now a national group, with the occasional international member, across a number of disciplines.
The aim of the group is to meet twice a year and discuss issues relating to PBL. The meetings have recently taken on a new format, with invited short papers followed by discussion and opportunities for networking. The group is co-ordinated by Carolyn Gibbon at the University of Central Lancashire and is open to anyone with an interest in PBL. Individuals interested in joining the group are asked to either contact Carolyn and their name will be forwarded to the Subject Centre, or complete the online form on the Special Interest Groups page. Information regarding events and/or queries can then be circulated to the member. Any suggestions for appropriate weblinks, or additions for the bibliography are very welcome. Links from all healthcare disciplines will be particularly welcome.
The group is informal, but is a great networking opportunity, and we look forward to your company.
